The Riverdale Art Center (The RAC) will host the second annual Art of Food Festival on Tuesday, September 13, 2011, from 7 to 9:30 PM. This locavore event will support The Riverdale Art Center, a 501(c)(3) non–profit dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals, families and communities through art.

The Art of Food will feature an epicurean tasting prepared by top local New Jersey-based chefs, a fine wine tasting, an art auction, and live music. It will be held at the historic Glenburn Estate located at 211 Hamburg Turnpike off Exit 53 from Route 287 in Riverdale, New Jersey. The 5.67 acre estate was acquired by the Borough of Riverdale through the Green Acres Program and the Morris County Open Space Fund. Lakeland Bank, The Borough of Riverdale, The Riverdale Land Conservancy, and the New Jersey Art Therapy Association (NJATA) are sponsors of the Art of Food Festival. NJATA is auctioning off an “altered book” of Alice in Wonderland at The Art of Food to help support art therapy programming at The RAC, scholarships, and victims of the Joplin tornado.

Drawing upon the harvest of local farmers, this event will feature a gourmet food tasting prepared by Berta’s Chateau in Wanaque; Snails & Quails yacht and event catering in Union City; Rosemary & Sage in Riverdale; Lina’s Ristorante in Bloomingdale; 202 Italian Bistro in Lincoln Park; and Monica’s in Pompton Lakes. The chefs participating in this event are all inspired by our local food markets which fuel their passion for cooking and eating—truly an art form.

Various artists will participate in a two-day plein air paint-out at Glenburn On September 12 and 13, and their work will then be auctioned off during the Art of Food, with 25% of the profits dedicated to supporting The RAC. Artists can contact The RAC at 973-513-9250 if they would like to participate in the paint-out. Well-known artist Carl Richards painted the image of Glenburn used on the poster art, and he will be painting on site during the entire festival. Music will be provided by local jazz ensemble, Nth Degree. Tickets $75 donation. Call The RAC at 973-513-9250 for tickets Or email info@riverdaleartcenter.org
